TK Desgin BuildSmart – Recognized with a Distinguished Service award in architecture

This week at TK Design BuildSmart, we’re proud to share that TK Design has been recognized with a Distinguished Service award in architecture.

It has been 21 years since Todd Hallett, along with his wife, Katie, co-founded TK Design with a focus on creativity, collaboration and innovation. TK Design is a full service design firm specializing in residential construction (custom and production), residential renovation and light commercial, including multi-family, for clients nationwide.

This year has been another milestone year for TK Design. The company recently became an ESOP, giving employees an ownership interest in the company. “The company’s success is the result of the whole team’s effort,” said Todd. “They have put their hearts into this company and shared ownership reflects our gratitude for their many contributions to the company’s success.” TK Design often recruits from colleges and universities. “Those recent graduates are energized and amazingly talented with leading edge skills,” said Todd.

TK Design also recently moved to a 10,000 sq. ft. office in Novi. Todd and his team designed the new offices and served as the general contractor for the renovation of the building. “We tapped the HBA membership for expert advice, assistance and materials,” said Todd. “Spencer Roed with Multi Drywall helped considerably, as did the team from KSI Kitchen and Bath. IMAGIO created a stunning glass wall which is the focal point for our new lobby. We relied on professionals from the HBA community for their expertise and we weren’t disappointed.” The new office space expands the firm’s previous ability to walk clients through their projects using virtual reality. “We’re converting 2,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space in the new offices as a place for clients to digitally walk through their new home’s proposed layout,” said Todd. “This is made possible by technology which allows us to actually project floor plans onto the floor.”

The company continues to focus on lean design. “This is especially important with rising material costs,” said Todd. “This building methodology helps reduce costs for homeowners and builders. Lean home building maximizes value while eliminating material waste.” TK Design has won numerous prestigious design awards including a Best in American Living Gold award from the NAHB for the home Todd and Katie designed for themselves – the Dollhouse. “That award was an extra special achievement, as is continuing to receive recognition for our work from the HBA,” said Todd Hallett, AIA.
